The Landing

The Landing is a short story written by Anita Desai in 2007. There is a main character, a woman. There are many other people in her life but they are not named, they only exist in her life, basically that.

The story is about a woman who bought a house from 1743, moved to it and started listening and seeing things. Because of this, she became very strange. She started to work a lot, trying not go home or stay alone.

Actually, the most different thing is that Anita Desai describes every feeling of the woman so well that you can feel and live in her place. In my opinion, it is really creative and envolving. The most interesting thing in this short story is that the author didn’t need a lot of characters to make you pay attention to the text.

Barcelona

One of the most beautiful place to visit in Barcelona is one beach especifically. I went to Barcelona last weekend but I couldn't go to that place. I'm going to tell you the story.

I arrived at the hostel on Friday evening, took a shower and went out to eat something. I ate “tapas” a really strange meal, because everthing was really small but tasty.

I woke up about 7 o'clock on Saturday to walk through the city. I saw Gaudi's biuldings and museums. My friends and I tried to find the beach. We found a beach but it wasn't the one we were looking for. We decided to try to find it again on Sunday before going back to Brighton.

On Sunday we woke up earlier than Friday to have more time to find the beach. We walked a lot and saw many places before going to the beautiful place. Of course we got lost and went to the same beach of the other day.

Trying to visit a place, we discovered others. This was brilliant!

Scotland

Scotland was one of the best place I’ve visited since I’m in Europe. I travelled about 11 hours from Brighton to Scotland. The weather was rainy and cold but it was worthy because of the places I visited on Saturday: castles, museums, shops and historic places. My friends who were with me were really funny. At night we ate an excellent salad with chicken. The best I’ve ever eaten!

On Sunday I went to Highlands. The weather was really good and the place was absolutely perfect. We went there by bus and sometimes we dropped off only to eat something and take some pictures. The snow in the mountains was incredible, I'd never seen it before.

On Monday before we came back to Brighton, we stopped in a very strange and scary city: York. We spent 4 hours but we couldn’t see a lot because we had to eat something and go back to the bus.

London

It was my second time in London. When I arrived there last Friday afternon my cousin was waiting for me. We went to his house, had a dinner and slept.

At about 9 o’clock I woke up, took a shower and went to city centre. I met some friends and we walked through the Piccadilly area. We ate at Pizza Hut (I went to this restaurant in each place I visit). After that we bought some pieces of clothing and gifts to our parents and friends. In the evening I arrived at my cousin’s house, ate some cookies and slept comfortably.

On Sunday I visit Nothing Hill, a very beautiful and romantic place. That moment I remembered the film with the same name. I almost saw Julia Roberts and the other actor who I don’t remember the name.

Later on I went to London Eye, but I dind’t go to the top because I was afraid of it.

When I came back to Brighton I was totally happy. I visited a lot of places I used to see only at movies.
